So we visited Wine Country in the New York Finger Lakes!

A table full of New York Finger Lakes Wine
These are from Cayuga Lake Wineries!
So, you may have noticed the lack of updates recently.  Well besides being busy with life and work, me and the lady went on vacation to upstate New York.  Part of our journey was spent in Unadilla, NY up in the Catskill mountains and we spent a fair time in Oswego, NY as well at the wonderful Harborfest festival.  But the end of our trip took place in New York's Finger Lakes region - specifically, we drove down the east site of Cayuga Lake via Route 89.

New York's Finger Lakes have many many wineries, and indeed one would have to spend a week or so to be able to hit all of them.  Alas, we only had about a day to spend, so we made a point of stopping at Montezuma winery (we're case club members after we bought of a couple of cases last year) and we stayed over locally in Seneca Falls.  We hit a few wineries the first day, then hit the rest of the ones on the west side of Cayuga lake on the way back down to our Hudson Valley homes :)

In the coming weeks, I'll be writing about and telling you more about the spectacular wines we were able to sample - as you can see from the picture above, we picked up quite a few.  The lady picked up even more than I did - this is more or less my half of the wines, and indeed you can't even see all of them - many of those bottles have other bottles behind them, and I couldn't even fit all of the bottles in the picture :)  As it is, it came out a bit fuzzy anyway, but I figured it was good enough to give you all a taste of what we picked up.

My taste is more towards the dryer red wines as you might notice by what I purchased, although there are some semi dry wines and a white or two in there for good measure :)

This list is by no means inclusive, but on this trip, we were lucky enough to sample and buy wines from these wineries...

Thirsty Owl
Swedish Hill
Lime Berry Wine Estate
Crooked Lake Winery
Hosmer Winery
Americana
Goose Watch
Lucas Vineyards
Cobblestone Farm
Lake Ontario Winery & Vineyards
Anthony Road
Lake Shore Winery
Thousand Islands Winery
Sheldrake Point

And much more...  honestly, there were also wineries at Harborfest and we got bottles from them too (including one of our favorite wineries, Crooked Lake!) and at this point I'm sure I'm missing a few.

We had just a wonderful trip to wine country and in the coming weeks I will be drinking and writing about most if not all of the wines you see, so you can look forward to reading about them and hopefully getting motivated enough to buy some of them yourselves!  Most of these wineries / vineyards ship their wine for reasonable prices if not free, so you can try them for yourself.

I look forward to sharing these wines with you and showing the world what delicious wine New York State has to offer.  Maybe I'll entice you to try a new variety or inspire you to try wines from a region that you hadn't heard of.

Long live the New York State Finger Lakes - and thank goodness for Wine!

Stay tuned!

  1. Oh gods... so much wine... I believe if I ever got a lump sum of money, I'd get a wall of red wine.
