Restaurant review - Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Fishkill, NY

Oh.  Boy!

Five Guys burger
A Five Guys Burger with all the toppings!  Yummy!
This last Friday, I got to go to Five Guys Burgers and Fries (also known simply as Five Guys.)  If you haven't heard, 5 Guys is a chain of restaurants / fast food establishments that keeps it simple - hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, and drinks.  I know that my blog focuses on eating healthy, but really - who can't appreciate a nice greasy burger and french fries every now and again?  If you're one of us that can, I urge you to hoof it on over to your nearest Give Guys as soon as you can and taste what these guys have to offer!

Five guys started in Virginia as I understand it and they've spread pretty rapidly.  They feature fresh, never frozen beef for their burgers and they fry the french fries in 100% peanut oil.  Now, this isn't some gourmet angus free-range whatever nonsense burger.  It's a fast food burger, cooked well done (although I imagine they could cook it less if you asked, they're very amenable.)  The burger is good though - juicy, good tasting beef, pretty good if you ask me.  The fries are very tasty - if you've had the thick cut style of fries they offer, fried in peanut oil, you understand what they're offering.  Personally, I like pretty much everything fried in peanut oil, but that's a topic for a different day :)

Five guys burgers, Cajun fries, peanuts and Drink!
Five Guys Regular Burger, Little Burger, Cajun Fries, Drink & Peanuts!
So, on our most recent trip, me and my lady ordered one regular burger ($5.29), one little burger ($4.09), a small fries ($2.89) and a small drink ($2.09).  The total came to $15.53 and I was sure to tip the friendly cashier for letting us take pictures in the establishment :)

The difference between the little burger and the regular is that the regular comes with two beef patties, the little just one.  I personally always go for the regular as I feel like you need the extra beef to balance out the mounds of toppings they give you - but the lady likes the little burger because the regular is too much burger for her :)  A word about the toppings - they're all free.

American cuisine, burgers and fries
Look at this food!  American "cuisine" at it's best, baby! :)
Toppings include lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, raw onions, relish, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A1 steak sauce, hot sauce, and BBQ sauce.  There might be another topping or two that I left out, but suffice it to say - they have nearly every topping that you'd typically every want on a burger.  They're all included in the price of the burger, so feel free to load up!  On this trip - for the sake of journalism, of course! - I ordered the regular burger with EVERYTHING.

The french fries come regular (delicious!) or with Cajun seasoning.  A small order is plenty to split between two people, and a large order is probably a meal in and of itself.  That is, if one could call a huge plate of fries a "meal." :)  For a change, we ordered the Cajun fries this time, usually we just order the regular.  I liked the Cajun spice, whereas my partner thought it basically tasted like Old Bay seasoning and could have done without it.  I personally like Old Bay and don't think it tasted quite like it, but there were definite similarities.  Either way, the fries were finished, in spite of the large portion :)

A whole other give guys burger! Thank you five guys!
They gave me a whole other burger for free!  Good job guys!
As for beverages, they offer a number of your standard Coca-cola beverages, along with some nice teas as such - the kind of soft drinks you'd expect at such an establishment.  A good selection - if only they carried beer, it would be wonderful to wash down these burgers with a cold one!  But I digress...

Now an interesting thing happened on this trip.  Our order arrived, I bit into my burger - delicious - and I noticed that something was missing.  Oh no!  They had forgotten one of my patties!  I checked my receipt, making sure that I did indeed pay for the regular burger - and showed it to the cooks behind the counter.  They apologized profusely and told me to keep and eat the burger I had been served (I'm easy to please - all I wanted was another patty!)  They then remade my entire order, brought it to my table, and again apologized for the inconvenience.

I mention this because mistakes WILL happen - Five Guys is staffed by human beings, not by robots - but what matters is how you rectify them.  The staff handled the situation courteously and professionally, and exceeded my expectations.  Hey, I got a free delicious burger for my trouble - Thank you very much Five Guys :)
Greasy five guys french fries
Everything comes in a no-frills paper back.  Look at the grease soaking through!  Yum!

$15 and change.  You would pay this much
at Burger King or McDonald's for garbage.
5 Guys is delicious as anything!
Me and my lady both left feeling nice and stuffed, not even thinking of refilling our drinks as we were so full.  All in all, it was a delicious meal, and I will not hesitate to visit Five Guys again in the future, or to recommend this Fishkill, NY location to anyone :)

Oh, I almost forgot!  Five Guys gives you tasty peanuts, fresh from the shell, to snack on while you wait for your food.  Hey, alright, peanuts! :)

I hope you enjoyed reading about our experience at Five Guys as much as I enjoyed eating there!  Maybe I'll see you there soon!

Bon appétit !!!
We love five guys burgers and fries!
We left our little mark on the board by the front of the restaurant :)
