Adams Fairacre Farms - My favorite store :)

The other day I had the joy of shopping at my favorite store - Adams Fairacre Farms.  Adams has an incredible produce section, with delicious fresh fruits and vegetables at very good prices.  I couldn't take any pictures of the inside (didn't want to be rude) but they have your standard supermarket departments and also an agricultural / horticultural setting.  It's really a rather interesting store.

The appeal for me though is the quality of the produce - and the prices!  Now many of you living elsewhere may find even these prices to be expensive, but here in the NY metro area, food prices are insane, and if you're like me and like you eat healthy, it can be a challenge.  Let me give you the proverbial laundry list - or in this case, the grocery list!.. of what I got.

1 Head Romaine Lettuce
1 Head Iceberg Lettuce
1 Head Green Leaf Lettuce
2 Bunches Fresh Cilantro
2.25 LBS Bananas
10 Pound bag of onions
2 Lemons
1 Huge cauliflower
5.25 LBS of green cabbage (making sauerkraut again this week! :) )
1 LB Brussels sprouts
3 Limes
5 Heads of garlic
2 Avocados
3.75 LBS of apples - all different kids, Stayman, Fiji, Braeburn, and more!
1.75 LBS of tomatoes
1 Big bunch Mint
1/2 a LB Broccoli crown
3.5LB zucchini (making zucchini bread soon!)

Adams also has a fantastic deli and cheese section, and they always get me to buy something... they have as many fancy and nice cheeses as a good Cheesemonger, and the prices are very fair.  They also package the cheeses in small little packages, so if you want to try something?  You can get a piece for 2, 3, or $4.  Who wants to spend $16 on a piece of cheese you might not like?  Nah, get a little bit for a treat - then if you like it, you know :)

So yeah..

Also got a nice piece of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese (for my Spaghetti alla Puttanesca) and a piece of Scamorza - this aged Mozzarella cheese that is soft and fantastic for snacking.

So for all of these veggies and a couple of pieces of tasty cheese, how much did it cost me ?

$41 and change.  Again, I'm sure to some of you out there this is a lot of money, but trust me - around here, leaving the store with a cart stacked high with produce and some nice cheeses as a treat for around $40 is an accomplishment.

I love Adams.  Did I mention that everyone there is always very helpful, the cashiers are friendly, the prices are ACCURATE (i.e. they ring up for what they are marked on the shelf - believe me, I check!), and the overall shopping experience is just wonderful.

They only downsides is the price of their grocery items.  If you want cheap grocery items (canned goods, processed stuff, detergent, etc) - go to Shop Rite.  But for wholesome, healthy food, Adams comes out on top again and again.  They've really earned my loyalty - enough so that I wrote this blog entry about them! :)

They have locations in Wappinger Falls, Newburgh, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie, all in the beautiful NY Hudson Valley.

  1. My favorite store EVER. I frequent the Poughkeepsie store, which also has a fish market, meat market, cafe and bakery on site. Of course, they are also known for their amazing greenhouse and landscaping items. Beautiful plants, reasonably priced. Doesn't get much better than that.

  2. Love, love, love..........We just live down the road from the Pok store! Now if they would just break into the Health Food Market my shopping trips would be complete--something like Natures Pantry would be AMAZING!!

  3. This is by far my fav store for all of the same reasons. I shop the Newburgh location. I was just there a few days ago, and had a shopping spree in both the main store and nursery, and spent over $200. I filled my cart up twice for that money though, so I feel pretty good about the quantity of what I got for the money. I never question the quality, as it's always top notch. For me, its the only place I shop when I buy cheese, coffee, seafood, produce, bakery goods and those hard to find ingredients.
